RECOGNITION OF CREDITS THROUGH THE ACCREDITATION OF OFFICIAL UNIVERSITY STUDIES

29 April 2026

In the following video (Spanish version), you can see a summary of the procedure for requesting recognition of undergraduate study credits:

Recognition is understood as the acceptance by a university of credits which, having been obtained in official studies, in the same or another university, are counted in other different studies for the purpose of obtaining an official degree.

In order for credits earned in any subject or course of official university studies, whether Spanish or foreign, to be recognized, the following points must be taken into account:

  •  There must be an alignment between the competencies, knowledge, content and credits associated with the subjects or courses of origin and those included in the destination subjects or courses, or those that are transversal in nature.
  • For the purposes indicated in the previous section, the equivalence that must be given in order to carry out the recognition of corresponding credits will be at least 75%.

In any case, credits corresponding to the final degree projects (TFG) may not be recognized.

You can consult the historical record of credit recognition for subjects from previous academic years (Spanish),(opens in a new window) which is non-binding for the university, it only has informative effects for the students.

When and how to process the application for credit recognition?

  • Deadline: The application must be submitted from the day after the completion of your enrollment until September 15, 2025.
  • How: The application is submitted electronically. The application is located in your authenticated access and is called “Application and consultation for recognition of credits for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees” (Solicitud y consulta de reconocimiento de créditos en estudios de Grado y Máster Universitario), then you must access “Accreditation of credits completed in Official University Degrees” (Acreditación de créditos superados en Títulos Universitarios Oficiales).

What documentation must I provide?

  • UMH studies: No documentation should be submitted with the application.
  • Studies from other universities. You must provide the following documentation in PDF format:
    • Personal academic certificate, must be stamped by the originating university or have a secure verification code (CSV).

What should I do once I have submitted the online application?

What are the requirements for the documentation for foreign university studies?

  • Personal academic certification:
    • It must be translated into Spanish by a sworn translator duly authorized or registered in Spain. It can also be done at any Spanish diplomatic or consular representation abroad, or by a diplomatic or consular representation in Spain of the applicant’s country of origin or, if applicable, the country where the document was originated.
    • It must be t must be legalized through diplomatic channels.(opens in a new window) No legalization is required for documents issued by member states of the European Union, signatories of the Agreement on the European Economic Area, or Switzerland.
  • Teaching guides or syllabi for the subjets: These must be translated into Spanish or English by a sworn translator. These documents must be stamped by the home university or include a Secure Verification Code (CSV).

What is the fee if the credit recognition is approved?

  • The fee is 25% of the price per credit established by the Decreto del Consell, which sets the fees for university academic services for the 2025/2026 academic year.
  • In accordance with the provisions of Article 14, section g) of Chapter III of Law 20/2017, of December 28, on Fees: ‘Regarding credit recognition fees, taxpayers who are undergraduate students and obtain credit recognition for subjects classified as basic training (carácter básico) in their original degree within the Valencian public university system shall be exempt, provided the credits originate from unfinished university studies completed at the same university and belong to the same field of knowledge (rama de conocimiento) as the degree for which the recognition is requested. This exemption shall apply to a single change of degree and in one direction only; it shall not be applicable should the taxpayer return to the degree program in which they were initially enrolled.

Is it necessary to enroll in the subjects which I am requesting recognition?

  • It is not necessary to enroll in the subjects you have submitted for credit recognition. If the resolution is favorable, they will be automatically added to your academic record (de oficio).
  • If you are a first-year student, you must enroll in the full course; however, you will be able to modify your initial enrollment during the enrollment expansion period. The following question indicates when this can be done.

Can I add subjects to my enrollment if my credits are recognized?

There are two periods available for enrollment expansion:

  • From the day after the recognition request is submitted until September 22, 2025. This must be done online through your authenticated student access.
  • From January 7 to January 14, 2026. This must be done online through your authenticated student access.

If I provide basic training subjects that cannot be recognized as specific subjects in the curriculum, can I have them recognized as elective credits?

If you have completed basic training subjects in another Bachelor’s degree within the same field of study, and they are not recognized in your current degree program because they do not meet the 75% requirement for recognition, you can submit them for elective credit. It’s important to note that the field of study and the branch of knowledge are not the same thing.

The Service of Academic Management will proceed with its resolution and subsequent notification to the students.

If I was a student in a SICUE program and have enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree at UMH, do I need to request recognition of the subjects I passed in the SICUE program?

If you were a student in a SICUE program at UMH, the recognition of subjects is not performed automatically course credits will not be automatically recognized for the new Bachelor’s degree you are about to start. You must request course credit recognition by submitting the official academic certicate from your home university and the teaching guides or syllabus for each subject you wish to have recognized. These documents must be stamped by your home university or have a secure verification code (CSV).
